OVCA Teacher Recognized as Oklahoma Teacher of the Year Finalist

At Oklahoma Virtual Charter Academy (OVCA), great teaching is at the heart of everything we do. Recently, one of our own educators received statewide recognition for that commitment.

OVCA Teacher Tracie Grunewald has been named one of 10 finalists for the 2026 Oklahoma Teacher of the Year award — an honor that celebrates exceptional educators who demonstrate leadership, dedication and a lasting impact on students across the state.

With nearly 19 years of experience in education and close to a decade at OVCA, Grunewald has built a reputation for inspiring students and helping them see what’s possible for their futures.

“It’s an incredible honor to be one of the finalists for this prestigious recognition,” Grunewald said. “Throughout my teaching career, I’ve had the opportunity to work with students across the state, helping them see they can achieve more than they ever imagined. Being part of their academic and personal growth is the most rewarding aspect of my career.”

Inspiring Students Across Oklahoma

Through OVCA, Grunewald teaches students across the state. Her classroom extends far beyond a single community, connecting students through virtual learning while still providing the personal support and encouragement that helps them succeed.

“Tracie has been with OVCA a little over nine years, and each day she shows up with passion, expertise and genuine care,” OVCA Head of School Audra Plummer said. “Her ability to connect with students, inspire them and challenge them to reach their potential is truly remarkable. Our entire school community couldn’t be prouder to see her celebrated at the state level.”
