OVCA Hosts First-Ever Bison Buds 4-H Reality Check Event for High School Students
OVCA High School students recently participated in the inaugural Bison Buds 4-H Reality Check event, an engaging, hands-on activity designed to teach real-world financial skills. Instead of virtual reality, this event focused on the realities of budgeting and decision-making—skills every student needs for life after high school.
Students rotated through stations where they faced everyday scenarios such as:
- Did you drop your groceries walking to the car this week? That’s $30 gone—how will you adjust your budget?
- How much food do you plan to purchase for the month?
Each decision impacted their monthly budget, challenging them to make smart choices and ensure they could make it through the month with money left over. It was a fun, eye-opening experience that combined practical learning with a bit of friendly competition.
One 9th-grade student summed it up perfectly:
“It was actually pretty fun.”
As Mrs. Bogoslawski noted, “That’s the best compliment you can get from a 9th grader!”
To make things even more exciting, students who completed the event were entered into a drawing for a pair of Beats Solo 4 Headphones.
This event was a huge success and showcased OVCA’s commitment to preparing students for real-life challenges. Stay tuned for more Bison Buds 4-H activities that combine learning with fun!
