OVCA Students Return to School Ready to Learn at Their Own Pace

As students across Oklahoma go back to school, not all are packing backpacks or catching the bus. For those enrolled at Oklahoma Virtual Charter Academy (OVCA), the new school year starts at home — where learning happens online, but with the same structure and accountability as a traditional classroom.

OVCA is a tuition-free, accredited public school that lets students learn at their own pace under the guidance of Oklahoma certified teachers. Students attend live virtual classes, complete assignments and receive teacher feedback, but with flexibility for unexpected challenges. For example, OVCA students have the unique option of replaying lessons.

“If a student gets sick or has to miss class, they don’t fall behind,” says Jordan Jensen, OVCA middle school English teacher. “They can watch recordings, answer polls and participate in chats later. I still get those notifications, so I know they’re engaged.”

Erin Goodridge, OVCA middle school principal, says this flexibility offers peace of mind for families. For many parents, safety and security are also important reasons for choosing OVCA. Families are comforted knowing their child can learn at home with the support they need, which contributes to their success.

“We have students who work ahead and even graduate early because they’re able to move at their own pace,” Goodridge says.

Despite its independent learning format, OVCA offers plenty of opportunities for students to socialize. Weekly in-person events allow children to connect with peers and make friends outside of the virtual classroom.

With year-round enrollment, OVCA gives parents a choice that makes back-to-school season a little less stressful and a lot more personalized. For families looking for a safe, supportive alternative, OVCA offers a proven way for children to thrive.
