Sara Bogoslawski

The Oklahoma Virtual Charter Academy (OVCA) thrives on the dedication of its educators, who go above and beyond to create meaningful opportunities for their students. Among them is Sara Bogoslawski, a Community Family Advisor whose passion for leadership and innovation has brought the transformative 4-H program into the virtual world, inspiring students to discover their passions and build lifelong skills.

Meet Sara Bogoslawski – A Visionary for Student Growth

Sara Bogoslawski’s journey with 4-H began at the age of nine, where she explored her love for horses and later expanded into public speaking and leadership roles. Her experiences in 4-H helped shape her future, from developing confidence to traveling the country and even helping fund her college education.

Now, as a Community Family Advisor at Oklahoma Virtual Charter Academy, Sara has come full circle, bringing the 4-H program to the virtual school environment. She’s leading a program with Oklahoma 4-H, one of only two pilot virtual 4-H clubs in the nation. Since its launch in 2022, the program has grown to include nearly 100 students and 20 certified staff volunteers, providing opportunities for hands-on learning, leadership, and community service.

What is 4-H?

4-H is a youth organization that empowers young people through hands-on learning and leadership experiences. It started with a focus on agriculture but now includes areas like STEM, arts, and life skills. The program helps students build leadership, responsibility, and practical skills through projects and community involvement.

“4-H is more than just a club,” Sara explains. “It’s a platform for students to explore their passions and develop the life skills that will help them become contributors to their communities.”

Building Skills Through Virtual Engagement

Under Sara’s leadership, OVCA’s 4-H club meets every Monday, offering students a variety of project tables to explore their interests. These include STEM, agriculture, arts and crafts, life skills like cooking and financial literacy, and gardening. Students receive newsletters detailing upcoming activities and materials lists, allowing them to fully participate in hands-on projects from home.

Recent projects have included coding exercises, making pumpkin cheesecake cupcakes, and crafting handmade stuffed animals. These activities are complemented by community service initiatives, such as organizing local food drives and creating flyers to support donation efforts.

Empowering Leadership Among Students

One of the most exciting aspects of the 4-H program is its emphasis on student leadership. In December, the club held elections for roles like President, Vice President, and Recreation Leader, giving students the chance to develop public speaking and organizational skills.

“Many of these kids have never held a leadership position before,” Sara shares. “We work together on their election speeches and help them discover their strengths. It’s incredible to watch their confidence grow as they step into these roles.”

Transforming Lives Through 4-H

Sara has seen firsthand how 4-H can transform students. One student has discovered her voice and confidence through the program. Now running for club president, she is a shining example of how 4-H can inspire growth and leadership.

“She is a social butterfly,” Sara says with pride. “She wears her 4-H shirt with pride and has become a leader among her peers. Stories like hers make all the hard work worthwhile.”

A Vision for the Future

As the 4-H program continues to grow, Sara is focused on expanding its reach and impact. She also plans to introduce a program for younger students and empower senior members to lead project tables, fostering peer-to-peer learning and mentorship.

“It’s a platform for students to develop big life skills and make meaningful connections,” Sara emphasizes. “The passion and excitement these students bring to 4-H inspire me every day.”

Leaving a Lasting Legacy

Oklahoma Virtual Charter Academy is redefining education by combining academic excellence with a supportive and dynamic community. With dedicated educators like Sara Bogoslawski leading programs like 4-H, students are empowered to explore their passions, develop leadership skills, and connect with others in meaningful ways.

At OVCA, students are not just achieving academic success, they’re building the confidence, skills, and relationships needed to thrive in life beyond the classroom. Programs like 4-H demonstrate the online school’s dedication to preparing students for bright and impactful futures.
