SPECIAL SERVICES TEACHERS
Shaunna Atchley is a high school special education teacher who joined K12 in 2018. She has taught over 20 years in many different fields and grades. Shaunna earned her BA in Education from Oklahoma State University and a MA in Education Administration from Northeastern State University. She began her career teaching adult education with the GED program. She spent 14 years as a middle school Science teacher before moving to high school US History, Geography, and Sociology. She holds certificates in secondary social studies, science, history, geography, sociology, special education, and administration.
Cara Bass is a High School Special Education Math Teacher who is in her first year with K12. She comes to K12 with 14 years of teaching experience in grades 6-12. Mrs. Bass earned her BA in Social Studies Education from Oral Roberts University. She holds certificates in all Social Studies and all Math for grades 5-12 and Mild/Moderate Special Education for grades K-12.
Mrs. Chambers is the English Language Learner teacher and joined the K12 team this year. She brings 10 years of public school experience, and 10 years early childhood experience in education. Brenda earned her Bachelor's degree from Carson-Newman College in Tennessee. She is currently in her last year of study in her Master's degree from Oklahoma State University. Her Master's degree will be in Human Development and Family Services. She holds an Oklahoma teaching certificate in Early Childhood and Elementary 1-8.
Kelly Cook is a Special Education teacher with over 20 years’ experience in her field. Kelly holds a BA in Liberal Arts, Elementary Education and Special Education. She holds certificates in Mentally Handicapped, Severe-Profound/Multiple Disabilities, Learning Disability and Mild-Moderate Disabilities.
Tonya Farris graduated from the Oklahoma State University with an Elementary and special education degree. She teaches special needs students and loves that she is able to have more personal relationships with her students and families. She is married and has two sons and 4 grand-babies. Her family likes to go camping and to the lake in the summer.
Jessica Findley is a 6th grade ELA teacher who joined the K12 team in 2018. She has 5 years of experience in education and is certified in Secondary English and Special Education (K-12). Ms. Findley earned a BA in English from Oklahoma Christian University and a M.Ed. in Higher Education from the University of Central Oklahoma.
Tiffany Furr is a special education teacher servicing both 2nd and 3rd grade students. This is her first year with OVCA and the K12 team. She has been teaching since 2008 after earning her degree from Northeastern State University in education. She holds certifications for both Early Childhood Education and k-12 Special Education.
Jasmine Geiger is a high school special education teacher who joined the K12 team in 2018. She is an experienced educator and leader who is passionate about seeing students achieve their growth goals. Mrs. Geiger earned her BS in Communication Science Disorders from the University of Arkansas at Little Rock.
Allen Hilsdon is a high school teacher who joined the K12 team this school year. This is his 8th year of teaching. Allen holds a B.S. in Education from Mississippi State University and a M.S. in Kinesiology from Texas Woman's University. He is currently pursuing a Ph.D. in Psychology from Grand Canyon University and graduated from the University of Texas Police Academy in 1998. Allen holds a Teacher Certification in Oklahoma, Texas and Arkansas. He is certified to teach Special Education, Technology Applications, Business Education, Physical Education, Health, Math and Science.
Lora Howell is a 7th/8th middle school math teacher who joined K12/OVCA in 2016. She brings 14 years of experience in education. Lora earned a BA in Education and a MA in Education through Northeastern State University in Tahlequah. She holds certificates in Elementary Education, Mild-Moderate Disabilities, Intermediate Mathematics, and Mid-Level Math for High School Credit. Lora enjoys working with middle school math.
Amy Jaques is a K-5 Special Ed teacher who joined the K12 team in 2011. She focuses on students with severe disabilities. She graduated from Central Bible College and received her teaching degree from Rio Salado College. She also taught for Arizona Virtual Academy.
Rebecca McGuffin is one of the 5th grade Special Education teachers who joined the K12 team in 2016. She has been teaching for approximately 15 years. Rebecca earned her BA and Master’s degree in Special Education at the University of Oklahoma. She holds certifications in Mild/Moderate and Severe/Profound Special Education and Elementary education, as well.
Patience Newsom is a MS Special Education and Math teacher. This is her 8th year teaching, and 1st year at OVCA. She has a BS in Science, and a M. Ed in Special Education from Wayland Baptist University. She is certified to teach Special Education, English, Early Childhood, and Elementary Ed.
ReJeana Payne is a high school special education teacher. This is her first year with K12. Ms. Payne holds a BA and MA from the University of Central Oklahoma as well as a PhD from the University of Oklahoma. She holds certificates in Learning Disability, Mentally Handicapped, Severe-Profound/Multiple Disabilities, and Elementary Education.
Karlena Riggs is the middle school OILERS program teacher who joined the K12 team in 2016. She previously taught special education for three years in Tulsa Public Schools, and worked as a content specialist for Teach for America for two years. Karlena earned a BA from the University of Tulsa, and holds certifications in Special Education (Mild/Moderate and Severe/Profound Disabilities), Elementary Education, and English.
Mary Riley is a 4th and 5th Grade Math SPED Teacher and joined the K12 team in 2018. Mrs. Riley earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education from Stephens College in Columbia, Missouri. She then went on to earn her Master of Science degree in Education with an emphasis in Special Education from Oklahoma State University in Stillwater, Oklahoma. Mrs. Riley is certified in both Elementary Education and Special Education and has been teaching for 15 years. Mrs. Riley lives in Tulsa with her husband, young son, and their two dogs. In her spare time, Mrs. Riley loves to spend time with her family at the lake!
Stephanie Robertson is a high school special education teacher who joined the K12 team in 2018. She brings more than 12 years’ experience in education. Stephanie earned a BS in Psychology from Cameron University. She holds certificates in Special Education, English, Mathematics, Psychology, Sociology, Blind/Visual Impairment, and Deaf/Hard of Hearing.
Jennifer Trent is a Special Education teacher who joined the K12 team this year. She brings more than 20 years of experience in education. Jennifer earned her BS in Special Education and M Ed in Reading from the University of Central Florida. She holds certification in Elementary Education, Special Education and Reading. Jennifer has been in charge of Title 1 and numerous tutoring programs and was a reading coach for over 5 years.
Tiffany Whited is teaching for K12 as a high school special education teacher this year. She recently joined the K12 team and brings more than 20 years of experience working with children of all ages and abilities. Tiffany earned her B.S. in Education from the University of Central Oklahoma. She holds certifications in Special Education, Autism, Elementary Education and Early Childhood Education.
Tara Whitekiller teaches 7th and 8th grade Language Arts for students served in Special Education. She has 10 years of experience in this specific area of teaching. Tara earned her BS in Elementary Education from Oklahoma State University. She holds certificates in Elementary Education, Middle Level English and Mild-Moderate Disabilities.
